Andrew Brasher

Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit

Biography

Andrew Brasher served as a United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama.  Before taking the bench in May 2019, Judge Brasher was the Solicitor General of the State of Alabama, where he argued cases before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Alabama Supreme Court.  He previously served for several years as the Deputy Solicitor General and practiced in the litigation and white-collar criminal defense practice groups in the Birmingham, Alabama office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP.  Upon graduation from law school, Judge Brasher served as a law clerk to Judge William H. Pryor Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  Judge Brasher earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from Samford University and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review.

William B. Sellers

Justice, Alabama Supreme Court

Biography

Justice William B. Sellers was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey in May 2017. He was elected to a full term in 2018 and re-elected in 2024. His current term expires in 2031.

Justice Sellers received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hillsdale College in 1985, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama in 1988, and a Masters of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 1989. Justice Sellers practiced law in Montgomery for 28 years. He maintained a general business practice with emphasis on taxation, business organizations and finance. A major part of Justice Sellers's practice involved tax litigation.

Justice Sellers is a member of numerous civic organizations and professional associations. In 2012, he received the President's Award for service to the Alabama Bar Association. In 2013, Governor Robert Bentley appointed Justice Sellers to the Alabama State Council on the Arts. In August 2014, Justice Sellers was elected chairman of the Fair Ballot Commission. He is past president of the Rotary Club of Montgomery, past chairman of the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts, chairman of the River Region United Way Campaign in 2008, and past chairman of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. Justice Sellers was a member of the Electoral College in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Justice Sellers is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Alabama, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Northern Districts of Alabama, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Tax Court. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Montgomery County Bar Association, and the District of Columbia Bar. Since 2014, he has served as the community liaison with the International Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Justice Sellers and his wife, Lee, have been married for 37 years. They are members of Trinity Presbyterian Church and have three adult children and two grandchildren.

William Keith Watkins

William Keith Watkins

Biography

District Judge W. Keith Watkins was appointed by President George W.
Bush to a vacancy in the Middle District of Alabama on December 27,
2005. Judge Watkins was elevated to Chief District Judge on May 18, 2011,
and he served as Chief Judge until January 31, 2019. He assumed senior
status in 2019 and is still active with the court. A native of Troy, Alabama,
Judge Watkins practiced law in Tuscaloosa for two years and in Troy for 28
years, with a broad general practice. He is a graduate of Auburn University
and The University of Alabama School of Law. Among other positions in the
bar, Judge Watkins is a Fellow in the Alabama Law Foundation and served
as the Bar Commissioner for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit and as a member
of the Alabama State Bar Task Force for Alternative Dispute Resolution. He
served as the mediator in over 200 civil cases in state and federal courts in
Alabama and Georgia prior to taking the bench. Judge Watkins serves on
the board of the Rosa Parks Museum and is chair of the board of The
American Village. He is a former board member of the Federal Judges
Association and The Frank M. Johnson, Jr. Institute. He also served on the
Federal-State Jurisdiction Committee, a national committee of the
Administrative Office of Courts, and on three panels of the Eleventh Circuit
Court of Appeals. Judge Watkins and his wife Teresa have two grown
children and seven grandchildren. Known for his various and sometimes
cryptic sayings (shared liberally with his children, grandchildren, and law
clerks), two favorites are: “Live your life so that opportunities seek you”;
and “Don’t leave this earth without anyone knowing you were ever here.”
